Veggie Box

Get in touch with Farmer Christine at [email protected] to sign up for your veggie share for the 2020 season!

Over the past two seasons (2018-2019), Azja and Christine have been working together to transition the farmstead into new stewardship. Christine has been the amazing lead grower for the Little Mountain Farm veggie box program for the past two years, taking over from previous farmer Azja.

This 2020 season and beyond, Christine will continue to produce at the original Saanich farm site at 4658 Cordova Bay, now under her own business name of Belle Isle Farm. The same delicious vegetables will continue to be produced at the farm (2020 is year seven of production for this little farm!), just now under the name of Belle Isle Farm.

Visit the new Belle Isle Farm website at! If you would like to sign up for veggies this 2020 season, get in touch with Christine today at [email protected]

Where did Farmer Azja go?

Azja relocated to the Cowichan Valley in 2018, where she is now growing just enough food for her household! She is working for Young Agrarians, a farmer-to-farmer resource network, as the Cowichan Valley/Vancouver Island Land Matcher, where she connects new farmers who are looking for land, with landowners who would like to lease their land for farming.

She is thrilled to have been able to pass on the farm she started in Cordova Bay to Christine to continue to grow and steward as Azja now focuses on connecting other farmers with land opportunities across Vancouver Island.

If you are an aspiring farmer and are looking for land, or would like support in getting started on your farming journey, or if you are a landowner who is interested in leasing land to a farmer, get in touch with Azja at [email protected] to start a conversation!

Find links for more info on the Meet the Farmers page.

Thank you so much for your support of this little farm over the years. Christine is so looking forward to continuing to provide you with delicious fresh food from this beautiful piece of land for years to come! Please continue to support this farm, now as Belle Isle Farm!

Many thanks, from the bottom of my heart.

Veggies to expect in your box

Earlier in the seaon, expect to see items such as Zucchini, Cucumbers, Green Onions, Radishes, Japanese Turnips, Asian Greens, Peas, Kohlrabi, Salad Mix, Lettuce, Beets, Kale, Chard and herbs such as Parsley and Cilantro.

As the season goes on, you will also see Carrots, Tomatoes, Basil, Peppers, Eggplant, Broccoli, Beans, Parsnips, Cabbage, Winter Squash, Leeks, Celeriac, Brussel Sprouts, Potatoes, Turnips and more.

A bit about the program: Why sign up for the whole season?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs were established to help the farmer share the risks and rewards of volatile growing conditions with the community the food is feeding.  The CSA model asks that the customer buy a share of the farm’s harvest for the year, in advance of the growing season.  This both gives the farmer the income needed to buy the seed etc. necessary to get the crops in the ground at a time when there is little to no produce being sold, as well as providing the customer with a share of the harvest that reflects that year’s growing conditions, whether the crops grow prolifically or slightly less, due to inclement weather, pests or other variables.

In light of this, we are strongly encouraging our box customers to sign up for the whole season!

We really appreciate having a guaranteed customer base to give our farm security, not to mention how much we enjoy getting to know you and providing you with the whole season’s abundance and variety of produce.

Options and Flexibility!

That being said, we are flexible to accommodate payment in installments if you are not be able pay up front for the entire season. We are also happy to accept post dated cheques for payment of the produce over the course of the season.

If you only need a veggies bi-weekly, we offer 13 boxes over the course of the season at the same rate per box as those who sign up for 26.

In addition to the regular $25 box, we are also offering a double sized box for $45 a week, 10% off the price of two boxes - for families who go through lots of veggies!

Pick-up, where it works for you

We have created communal pick-up spots to avoid charging you for delivery and to decrease the amount of time and fossil fuels we spend driving to get our produce to you.

Pick-up spots include the farm (Tuesday or Thursday) as well as communal pick-up locations in Fernwood (Tuesdays), Esquimalt and Uptown areas (Thursdays).  If there is another area that would work better for you please let us know and we may be able to create an additonal pick-up spot.

If it is not feasible for you to pick up your box from one of the pick-up locations, please let us know and we can arrange to deliver for an additional $5 per box.

If you are going to be away for a week or unable to pick up your box, we hope you can find a friend to pick it up for you – and share the goodness of fresh local produce!  If you are unable to find someone to pick up we are able to offer a credit towards your account for up to two weeks of produce.  Credit can be used in winter months or towards the next season.

Please get in touch with Christine at [email protected] if you have any questions or to sign up.  Thank you!
